Masteries

Saw Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon on the weekend and it occurred to me that it's a good example of how the game mechanics of masteries would look like visually.

Without quibbling about the exact values, Li Ma Bao was the great warrior, who fights at, say, 10W4. When Jade Fox fought, you could see she was good, certainly better than the average warrior, but when the two fought, it was obvious to all watching that he was purely and simply better than her. A good example of a 10W3 fighter vs a 10W4 fighter. Sure, she got in a couple of hits, but really, she never had a chance (she was an NPC so she didn't have any Hero Points to spend :-)

The nice thing is you can also lift the plot directly from the film into an RPG - right down to the movement Feats they used!

Harry.
