I just had an evil thought (with my narrator's hat on). In a group contest, it could be appropriate to give both contestants 1x, 2x or even 3x the bid in APs.

Why?

In narrative terms, both fight (or whatever) so impressively that they both gain advantage as compared to all around them - for example everyone gasps in amazement at their flurry of blows.

In game mechanical terms, if it's a group of characters vs the opposition, then the opposition has improved its position against everyone but the contestant that it just double criticalled with.
