You have to decide when a kami becomes more than just a local spirit: the Sun Goddess, the Moon Good, and God of War, all of these would have a theistic component

Kenja would be Sorcerors but their books would be based on the Chinese elements (Earth, Wood, Metal, Fire, Air, Water)

The Buddhists: there seems to be a mixture of mystics (both orthodox and manifest) and theism as well

Does a Samurai really gain feats from devotion to a god? I wonder. Perhaps, despite the odd suggestion of shamanism, a warrior gains a spirit as a result of a blessing by a priest.

And on the pop-Japnese side, what of the Ninja?

How would you handle caste/incarnation?

Are you going for Anime or historical epic, or moving wuxia to Japan?
