Possible. Though it does leave us with a problem with respect to keyword level. There's a distinct danger of making them too powerful with this writeup.

A good idea. Very reminiscent of Ars Magia's grogs/custos. Some groups might not be suited to it, of course. I susepct mine are too jealous of their allies to hand them around like candy (but it would reduce the NPC load on me, I admit)
