Affinities Question

One thing I'm as yet unsure on is if an initiate has an affinity with no feats what can they do with it.

For example an Orlanth initiate with the storm affinity. Can this be used at all if there are no feats and if so what sort of limitations are appropriate?

Maybe I'm just missing something in the rules but this is a bit unclear to me.
