<shrug> yes and no. Several bands which are each a binary state - you are in 'em or out. They were In Contact, Disengaged, In Reserve, In the Rear. Movement roll to move between them, and ranged combatants can contribute AP to a battle in which they are in the Disengaged band, say, while melee weapons are "in contact".
