Females in LoTR

Stirring maybe, but not history shaking. It's not really relevant to the plot at all (unless you think it helps Aragorn embrace his destiny), it's effectively a separate story-line.

In the whole three volumes, there's only one point where a female does anything active that makes a difference to the world - Eowyn and a hobbit combine to kill the leader of the Nazgul who 'no man can slay'. And nobody notices.

Another reason why I prefer Glorantha as a game world.
