Continuing the post that got sent early by mistake...

Failure will cause the shaman to bleed, lose organs or limbs, or simply to fade from sight.

Those without spirit sight will only see and hear incidental details - bangs and crashes, temperature changes, etc.

The essential difference between animism and theism is one of position. The shaman command spirits to do what he wants, and enforces it through his own might. Theists ask other beings to do things for them - they have no power beyond their good standing with the gods. Of course, shamans can also bargain and coerce spirits, but exorcism is an inherently adverserial task, so a more dominating position is called for.

Cheers,
Graham
