A better example would be the difference between Orlanth Goodvoice and Lhankor Mhy. Lhankor Mhy is better in his job than Orlanth is, but sometimes a clan cannot support a Sage (due to poverty, chronic lies or lack of beards etc.) and so the lawspeaker would worship Orlanth Goodvoice instead.
