I can't point to any general source, but I heard a Tower of London armor
expert say that the creation of a suit of chain mail required about 700
man hours of labor (for skilled armorers.) I also know from working on
SCA stuff with a friend who is a professional armorer that chain takes
MUCH longer to produce than plate or any form of leather.
