There are invariably customer service issues that arise. These take time.

The big time sink would probably be setting things up. If you're going to bother doing it, you need to make sure it's somewhat secure.

And most schemes take a pretty large chunk out of a $5 payment. The web still doesn't really have micropayments.

Becoming a GTA Initiate wasn't really intended as a way to buy stuff. It's a way you can become a patron of the arts. Issaries sweetens the pot by letting you have access to stuff you just can't buy anywhere.

(Well, it looks like some of the Initiate material made its way into Revealed Mythologies, which you can buy. But you'd have had it much earlier. And there's still some really cool stuff about the EWF.)

But I still think the most important aspect is that you help support the creation of new Gloranthan material.
