There's a reason that it's often better to begin a game with Balazarings or Praxians. They don't "know" that much, in our terms. Of course, their characters "know' how to do lots of things, but they don't sit around thinking about them, they just do them. Those old hand-outs, "what my father taught me," work best with people like that. If your players don't want to read more than a page, that about does it.
