I think that the Yanafil Tarnils and Humakt worshippers respect each other because they each recognize that they share some core concepts of death and honor. They share a lot in common, and it would be much like medieval knights or even some modern soldiers or plutocrats who recognize that they have more in common with each other than they do with the common people of their own countries. This would not prevent them from happily killing each other in battle (under normal conditions), but I can easily imagine them sharing a beer together in less hostile times.

Probably much like a Lhankor Mhy and Irippi Ontor scholar might share friendship because they are both studying Storm Age metallic deposits (or whatever.)
