Point taken. What I meant was, more, "*Humakt* doesn't ambush"--the geases, no less than the gifts, are supposed to make the worshipper resemble the god more closely. And that would imply that while *some* Humakti are geased never to ambush, *all* Humakti would feel the sense that by ambushing, they are straying somewhat from Humakt's path.
...except, apparently, Humakt *does* ambush sometimes, saith the Stafford. So I'm clearly barking up the wrong tree!
Also, Simon gives a plausible, non-"merciful" reason why Humakti might not ambush (that everyone should get the chance to face death squarely). Don't know if I'm convinced, but it makes at least as much sense as my theory.
