LM used to be a Sorcerous being, right? He only "became" a god after joining up with Orlanth (sort of the way Yinkin had to choose to be a god and not a spirit). Maybe the Mostali (who hate change, hate people spreading secrets, etc) were trying to force LM to be the "proper" type of entity. Besides, LM's joining with the gods of movement and change must have added insult to injury....
