Well, IMO Glorantha-List Abbreviations (GLAs) are A Good Thing to foster YGMV & MGF in HW/HQ and Gloranthan RPGing, urbi et orbi.

The GLAs are actually a marvellous invention :

"Also, I know that people could ask what is meant but for those with 56k modems it means more up/downloading"

Contrariwise, 56k modem-people downloading pro-GLA msgs : doubleplushappy 2 sav valuable DL & d.

Double-NP-wise.

> I know all the reasons *for* using these codes but they are just that > - *codes* -

Aaaaaaah, but no you're mistaken IMO. The main function of esoteric codes in language is to distinguish between "us" and "them" : Get with the programme, or be one of them <yuck!>

There is no third possibility.

Mucho linguistic theory to back me up : but your non-abbrv. request smells of straw humanity, IMO. No linguistic theory satisfaction forthcoming.? Ouch.

YRWMV > I know both of these require some effort but not very much really. To > do it right, in my opinion, we should do both.

Right : so every non-lurking list member should individually and manually make sure of no abbreviations in e-mails, and that's "not much effort" ?? YMMV

Not broken, no fixing needed.
