The best source would be Tales #16 which not only had a RQ3 cult writeup but an outline of his history after the birth of the goddess. The take on it was that he was in the plot for the power alone and intended to grab it from the goddess. But he was touched and fled in shame to the underworld. There he remained until the Goddess on her quest for her Self found Danfive and redeemed him.
