Example: They know who the "law" is on the stead, the head of the stead, bloodline, whatever. And they know pretty much what the day-to-day rules are. But when they move to Pavis or Boldhome (to a lesser extent) they're uncertain who the "law" is or even what the law is. If they try and live by stead rules and laws they're in for a rude surprise. What do you do when you find out your neighbour is one of those Black Oak bastards and you can't do anything about it? Try and raid him and you're begging for a visit from the constabulary.
The loss of family is probably the worst. As annoying as they can be they're also familiar and comfortable. You know how to deal with them. In Pavis especially you find yourself surrounded by all the alien groups living there, and I mean the Yemalio followers, the River Folk, Lunars, etc., etc. Sure there's a Heortling quarter but few if any of your neighbours will be relatives which is really weird. It's even worse than having to marry out of your clan.
In a lot of ways they're freer (at least from traditional constricts). This could result in either a very happy or very unhappy Heortling. Depends on how flexible they are mentally I'd guess.

Subject: What effect does city life have on Hoertling culture?
I have a good idea of what life is like on the stead, but what about living in a city like Boldhome or Jonstown? Even more important to my game I'd like to know what effects moving to Pavis may have had on the culture?
