Talk to soul (from hw-rules)

Moving this here from rules as the parts of it I am interested seem much more appropriate here. In our campaign I am exploring this theme as I play a devotee of Issaries the Guide.

TKT is specifically noted as being a specialist (Humakt and Issaries are the other two) that Orlanthi have to deal with the dead and ghosts. Devotees of TKT prepare the bodies of the dead for funerals -  not specifically limited to the bodies of the women. Additionally, what we have about the Ancestors always speaks of them as an amorphous group, not divided into women and men.

Given these, I would not limit TKT to the souls of women or Issaries to the souls of men. I see this as one of the mysteries of death. Or alternatively, in the Caverns of Silence, the Breaths split apart and each one goes to their separate destination. So when Fred dies, his clan Breath joins the Ancestors, his Vanganth Breath joins the Vanganthi, etc.

In our game, we have come to the conclusion that Humakt only cares about the act of separation and that, after separation, the living and the dead remain separated. Humakt has no interest in exactly where the dead are or go, as long as they do not mix with the living. On the other hand, Issaries, as psychopomp, does have an interest in ensuring that the dead go to their correct place.

It will be interesting to see how this question resolves. Kolat, while a spirit rather than a daimone, is still Orlanth's brother.

Charles
