If it is not the role of myth to explain why the world is so, what is it?
I'm guessing, but I think the Lunars would say that the length of the menstrual cycle is the same as the ancient cycle of the moon goddess in her earliest incarnations (Verithurusa?, Lesilla?).
The fact that the Heortlings have no explanation simply highlights their ignorance, and hence the weakness of their primitive religion ;)
