I can't remember the name, but there was a caste in southern
India (Kerala) where the women ruled the clans and the men
were mercernaries who hired out to both sides of conflicts
and fought ritualized champions' battles to settle the issue.
They were also the creators of kalaripayat, said to be the
oldest martial art in the world.
