As well as Heroes having access to this material contributors to the process get to see things too.

Common Magic brings back the low-level magic of Glorantha that went AWOL in HW. As Jeff points out most campaigns won't find existing characters - if most groups have a prevalence of devotees, like ours- really affected. It is an option for new characters and the common folk. It is useful, solves some problems, and we have yet to find the concept really needs any campaign retconning. In fact like all positive changes I find it make more sense than what we had before it.

No one is forcing you too. HQ and HQ are pretty much compatible. I'm
planning on posting some conversion notes from our experiences closer
to release (which will frankly be a short document on our experience
so far)- you could always use them in reverse.
That said - it is a *far* better version. Clearer, simpler, more elegant and consistent. And while the core mechanics are still there it is a rewrite, not just a paste in the errata, and it is obvious a *lot* of effort has gone into it. A *lot*.
