No forgotten sub-cults required. Just a little mental gymnastics…..

At the time, Destor and Tatouth weren't heavily worshipped by the men, because in the old lands there had been little call for them. Given the dangers of the new lands, many women turned to Vinga, and many took on those two thunder brothers as a sub-cults, since the protection that the people needed most was protection from the unknown dangers in the surrounding lands. Most likely there had been a hero in one of the first clans to re-settle that helped inspire them to do so. Hence, at the time, the exploration magic was usually associated with Vinga.

Over time men began to initiate to those thunder brothers again, and the new Vingans saw the greatest need for protection in other areas, so that association has been weakened.

Of course, this explanation almost begs for someone to right up a Vingan hero of the resettlement era, who still offers who few worshippers a blessing called "pathfinder"......
