They look very compatible. Its my understanding that Mark G had access to rough drafts of HeroQuest when they were editing up the book. Some of the things which may not work out quite right can be explained away as 'trollish differences.' The only real lack is Common Magic and the sidekick-type followers but those can be added on readily.
