An established setting?

I'm biased of course, but I'd probably go for another Sartarite or Far Place stead campaign, where the relative isolation means the players get to deal with new ideas one at a time. We'd focus on politics and personalities first - pro- and anti- Lunars, Yelmalians, Elmali, Kallyr, the chief, the moot, the womens circle and bloodline rivalries. Typical events - a cattle raid, a market, a moot, a chaos outbreak, a tax gathering, a ritual. Then the cults - those smelly Odaylans, ratbag humakti, tragic Uroxi, maligned, hated and misunderstood BBGori, dangerous Eurmali, fast-talking traders of various cults and the obligatory exotic and stereotype-smashing Lunar - a Rinliddi bird priestess, Carmanian stoic or undercover Coran or Gorgormite perhaps. Once the weave was rich enough, start bringing in elder races - Uz and enlo and dragonewts and durulz. Then a big vision, a a bigger winter and the death of everything. (Though I'd probably hold off on that till the second session... :) )

Having said that, Pavis and the counties are also irresistable. I've campaigned there often, and the common set of personalties established there means you can meaningfully swap ideas (and campaign anecdotes) with other players around the world. Our vision of the Rubble takes **weeks** to cross though - an original Chaidea that got smashed when the maps were drawn up.

A new setting? It's been in my mind for a long time. I'd want a blank area that's never been described, so we could collectively weave our our vision of the society and its its cults. My campaign settings all seem to start with the weather. And when the rain cloak of Skyfall Lake just isn't wet or cold enough... how about an isolated mountain valley on the ocean edge of Valind's glacier? Barbarian type pcs, close interaction with new types of elder races and powers, mysterious raiders and no contact with the outside world for centuries. Much skiing, shivering, avoiding avalanches and sheltering from supernaturally powerful thunderstorms.

Where was Umath chained again?

Cheers

John
