In my Glorantha (with a Kheldon-based campaign group), the real truth is somewhere between these two extremes (and is not really quantifiable, might even be a "campaign secret"). The Kheldons themselves are quick to dismiss these fanciful tails of lost magic, and just as quick to point out that the Starbrow incident taught them that the best policy with the respect to the Lunars was "slow and patiently bide your time". Aw, heck, not just the Lunars, the Kheldon pretty much apply that philosophy to most things these days...

But also, in my Glorantha, the "high flying" nature of stock-line Glorantha is much muted (i.e. it's a lot more like Mononoke-Hime or Nausicaa than Crouching Tiger, or (heaven forfend) Zu: Magic Mountain).

I have nothing against Heroic Combat Ability -- I'm just not a big fan of over-the-top wire-work... 8)
