ISTM that whether or not a Gobbler explodes would have more to do with what it's programmed to eat than anything else.

The original Gunpowder Gobblers? -- *obviously* they eventually explode!

But how about the Alchemical Laboratory Gobblers? -- you can probably think of something more amusing than "just" having them blow up, as they devour all the chymical compounds and mix them in their guts... :-)
