In a message dated 12/6/00 7:44:03PM, you write:

<< Slightly separate question: Could a Theist (say) worship a spirit by
sacrificial worship ON HIS OWN? >>

I think he could if the circumstances were right. There would need to be some way of establishing contact. For example, Theist meeting Great Spirit, then sacrificing something to it and hoping it is happy could be the start of a misapplied relationship. The 'worship [great spirit]' ability would need a HP to gain at 12, and might need a mythology of [something] with an improv modifier to even be able to do that.

<<Or would he need an Animist (or experienced misapplied worship theist) to
guide him? In other words, can misapplied worship be used on the spur of the moment when opportunity presents, or must there be known guidelines, either  through experience or the guidance of others? I say it needs  guidelines..>>

I guess I am disagreeing with you, but I agree that a Theist cannot simply start sacrificial worship of something he knows nothing about - there must be some connection, but not necesarily an animist or experienced misapplied worshipper.

FWIW I am working out a Magic Keyword for an order of Godlearner Theomancers who specialise in stealing Pagan magic through Misapplied Veneration - most of their Grimoires are catalogues of Pagan practices - (similar in style to the Golden Bough, in some respects).
