There may well be more than one reason for not doing so. A few I can think of are:

1- The myths are not really clear on what happened back then, so the 'maps' aren't trustworthy.
2- The beings that we worship were mostly not around back then, at least not in ways we recognize, and the few that were around back then are mostly the Greats, so there are no minor green age quests available.
3- The world continues to run down. Nothing had run down back then. I seem to recall a refereence in the HQ rules that a typical Green Age fighter has 10W3 combat. Imagine what the heroes are like.... 4- What you said.
