Remember that most Gloranthans -- unlike most heroes -- mix their magics. He could not have concentrated on theism and thus be an initiate of LM and still have the opportunity of practicing animism, too. Perhaps he is a practitioner of the little known Light Behind Shadow spirit practice, or maybe this is just something still a potential future route.
Or he could be a 'straight' theist, but with some weird standalone 'natural magic' powers (per the elaboration _at_ http://209.238.203.66/support/natural_magic.html) to replicate an unusual affinity with spirits, say Call Spirit, Summon & Shape Spirit and Dismiss Spirit, at 13, 13 and 6, respectively. Of course, without Spirit Face or Spirit Combat, he will be vulnerable dealing with these beings, but so he should!
Perhaps these could be limited to Known Spirits, or Dead Spirits, or whatever...
