You may well be right: or at least, getting more detailed than most games need.

And so that others can make the most of my previous comments: what I do is steel fighting, with blunt but otherwise "real" weapons and pulled blows. Very little armour. No thrusting allowed. Which no doubt accounts for a lot of our differences.

We considered real shield-push at some con, as I recall. I offered to bring the real shields. The last I heard, they were discussing lilos : (

But surely a throwing knife is one of the few weapons you'd never parry or block with, so how can it possibly be regarded as a shield? Intrigued.. and this is back on topic, I think?

Yes. Minor bonuses, but the different weapon styles are mainly flavour. If you need more help on how to make that flavour "realistic", we can try, within the limits of two different non-lethal (and hence non-realistic) combat systems.
