They don't, the hoplites draw up to face each other on a proper open space. Basically a traditional DH army is in trouble fighting an opponent who doesn't follow the rules of battle set down by Yelm. That's why the Lunars insist on DH generals learning to use other types of troops although they don't always manage to dispel the notion that the hoplite phalanx is most effective and only proper military unit.
