Actually, thoroughly indoctrinated Orlanthi :)
So, my apology, I started off thinking of things from an Orlanhi POV, then wandered off to broader speculation, which is a completely ridiculous mix-up.
So I went back to Thunder Rebels, read relevant bits in a strictly Orlanthi mindset, and came to my own conclusions. To whit:
"But Uncle Graffyr, you said when Orlanth came down off the spike there was nobody here but inhumans."
"That's right, Boltar of the thousand questions, the humans all came with Orlanth."
"But, but, you said the bad emperor ordered Umath killed, and Umath was Orlanth's father, so that means the people of the solar empire weren't human!"
"Ah, my nephew, now you begin to understand. That is why your father joined Kallyr to try and throw them off, and why you must grow up strong and wise. Might as well be ruled over by goats or trolls as by the solars and lunars."
