Remarkable, and exceptional....that is, most likely nobody else in the region even thinks about trying to make their equal.

For what it is worth, one of the few straight streets in Paris is apparently the old Roman road coming in from the south....in other words, the road was important enough that for a good 1000 years it was still in use, and as the city grew in continued to be used and became a city street. I suspect that Sartar's roads would have a similar unique level of respect and use attached to them.

Which makes me wonder about Sartar and measurements. At the very least those roads not wholly made by the dwarves must have had some common measurements used by the craftsmen working on them. The heortling equivalent of rods and chains I suppose.

It seems to me not impossible, however, that Heortlings have reasonably standardized longer units of measurement too. Remember that many of them have seen the land from the air, so have some feel for distances beyond how long it takes to walk them. Also, I wonder if Mastokos occasionally gives some ability to estimate distances? Tatouth may also measure paths. Basically, magic may give a more 'ominscient' view of distances than was available to primitive peoples on earth.
