I suspect the Maran Gor worship may be clandestine. (The Hiia Swordsman cult is allowed only for the Feathered Horse Queen's bodyguard.)
IMO starting off everyone as a vendref isn't that great an idea, in that you pretty much guarantee they have to leave home (since the Grazers won't be unhappy with a gang of uppity serfs).
