Doesn't neccessarily follow the Lunars in Karse know anything about the Bat. The Bat is part of the College of Magic which is lead by Tatius the Bright. In 1619 Tatius is embarrasing the warlord in command of the invasion (Fazzur Wideread). My impression is that Tatius sent the Bat down to solve Fazzur's problem (Whitewall) for him, show him how it should be done, probably without telling him.

Certainly I should make sure he gets lots of contradictory information if he starts trying to use Lunar sources as just about everything has two or three political slants to it.

Depends how he relates to Kistrad the Gate-Thane doesn't it? If he fumbles with that story he may not get in at all.
