Vingans are women. They can marry, and if they marry, they marry men. At least, that's my understanding, and I've never seen anything to indicate otherwise. (All Vingans are--*have to be*--Ernalda initiates.)

Yes, a particular Vingan might make the argument Jennifer G. proposes, that since she's treated as a man in other ways, she should be treated as one in that way, too. If she can convince the godis, great. But I can't see anything to indicate that this is the usual practice.

Which is why I asked whether Nandans--a special case--can marry men. Nandans are *not* a direct parallel to Vingans, so it's hardly surprising that people ask this question about Nandans more often than about Vingans.

That said, it turns out Greg hath spoken on this topic, in a message on Nov. 1, 2002. And, yes, Nandans can marry men, and this is accepted in Orlanthi culture. The message is cached here:
