How about the Canadian winter trick, using 10W40 for cold, hard starts?
Levity aside, there's a good (though specialised) occasion when such a message might get through: when a worshipper dies while on the god's business. At that point, the god has reason to want someone else to come finish up. Of course, few PCs want to be transmitting a message in those circumstances...
