I wasn't even assuming that the Humakti would be stooping to taking healing during the combat to avoid death. :-)

I was simply thinking of everyone else.

Sure. One of my players has a Yinkin devotee who was badly injured during the early part of the cradle. As the 'in' to the scenario was the Pavis dwarves, their clan has ancient ties to the dwrves and Earth due to a magical stone in their tula in which the wyter resides, I took the party to the dwarves in Pavis for aid. His injuries were too severe to be healed - magical spear to the heart leaving him mortally wounded during a daring counter-attack that saved many of his comrades - and so the dwarves replaced his heart with one of stone. The artifact was useful in itself, a Heart of Stone is something to boast of in the stead, but he has developed it - like an affinity where he has feats like Endurance of the Mountains - and his relationship to Earth has increased. We are currently looking at his cult affinity and wondering whether his future really belongs with Yinkin. The cool item has shaped the character...

My players keep pestering me for returning items but haven't come to me with a good story for one yet. :-) They'll learn.

It's the dressing that counts I think. I don't have any real Humakti - they're my favourite cult but no-one else's - but I do have an odd sub-cult that we've called Harroimakt - cult of the injured warrior. He is an old warrior who sustained injuries in battle and kept the injuries - gimpy leg - as part of the initiation. The cult of the injured warrior is our version of the Home Guard - old warriors who rally the troops in the tula when the fyrd is away - its magic is based around supporting the troops, guiding and co-ordinating warbands and making a last stand. That PC has gained from his cult the Stasis Shield. It has been extremely useful to him in resisting enemy charges - in foiling dwarf assault ladders on the cradle - and in keeping the Yinkin PC alive until he could get his heart transplant.

>Not much else for you I'm afraid - the game I ran myself was low-level,
>no place for fancy magical trinkets.

I'm building my game up and just beginning to dish out the goodies. They have been on three fairly major Heroquests now and the stuff they've brought back with them has begun to 'mature'. Another PC has been 'involved' (not in a good way) with the local Sun Dome and brought back magic with which to defeat them. He won Spirit Phalanx magic from a Sun Domer while disrupting a Heroquest. When he invokes the magic he gains a row of spirit selves that form a shield wall that he can use. The Spirit Phalanx is something has has been investigating the use of despite the danger of being drawn into Solar magics - partly because the magic is so effective against the clan's ancient enemies - the trolls.
