Much though I hate to take eye-candy from a babe, hoplites did wear a cuirass - "at first of bronze, later of leather or linen" -OCD. I'm not sure whether the cost is the weight and heat, or simply the expense. Note the difference between a true Bronze Age economy, like Homer, in which this was the panoply of heroes, and an early Iron Age, in which half the citizens could afford this.

And what is HeroQuest doing about the problem? Glorantha's stuck with Iron Age coins and marble statues - is there reason to take away readily available metal armor?
