But I bet that "preserve armor" magic is much easier to find and use than "make" or "repair" armor.

Presumably any god with a connection to craftsmanship *or* to keeping wealth would have appropriate magic. Ernalda, for example, is custodian of all the treasures of the earth (I forget which subcult, but it's established). I'm sure there's a fairly simple ritual where you wrap the armor in oiled cloth and bury it, and it keeps indefinitely.

In an active stead, those treasures are probably buried in the dirt of the chief's hall. And it's probably worthwhile digging around in ruined steads to see what's buried...
