Oh, all those are options. I'm even tempted to have the prophecy be from some early Jrusteli work about Orlanthi myths. (Damned GodLearners!!!) But yes, she doesn't know if she mistranslated, made the wrong parallels, or just misinterpreted vague things. But before she did this she was absolutely sure she was right.

More importantly, I suspect Maery will love you. I'm forwarding this to her right now. If she likes it, I'll lift it wholesale. I actually thought her clan far enough north that the Kitori idea doesn't necessarily work, but there's certainly room to play with that and it's a cool idea. And considering I'm a huge fan of the OOO, I do like it.
