Just a thought - did Malan have a life before becoming Humakti? Could he have fathered children in that previous life? Assuming he resheathed, would they still count as his children afterwards? Could he (re-)adopt them?

He does seem to be the sort of chap to be right at the edge of what convention will allow, and to make up his own rules if needed.
