Here's a version of the Thrinbarri Battles known amongst the Orlmarthing. There's lots of version of the myth - in fact, there are even some versions where the Sky Tribe are joined with the Sea Tribe. However, this is a version known amongst some of the Colymar clans.
The Common Story
Vingkot was a great warrior who defended the land of Kerofinela against all who would plunder it or enslave his people. When the Dara Happans came to avenge the death of the Evil Emperor, Vingkot led his sons and warriors to meet them like a storm reaching into the north. Vingkot defeated army after army and plundered city after city.
The Thrinbarri Battles were among the most important of these battles. After Orlanth ended the Flood Age at Worcha's Rage, three sons of the Evil Emperor - Venebain, Sevsalsal, Gologar – led armies of supporters to destroy the Storm Tribe.
Sevalsal the Golden was the senior. He led the Star Captains such as to eradicate the Storm Tribe from the Sky. It was Sevalsal and his Star Captains that destroyed the Illuvani.
Venebain the Red was the middle brother. He led an army of Red Warriors to eradicate the Storm Tribe from the Middle Air.
Golagar the Conqueror was the youngest brother. He led an army of Dara Happans to conquer Kerofinela.
King Vingkot sent around the Black Arrow, so all the armies and warriors prepared to depart for war. But he also sent the four torches, which only go out when the fyrd is summoned. The Thunder Brothers showed up, each going among the clans who revered them, so the sons of Orlanth each led an army. Vingkot requested that his redhaired sister bring her women, and that her two cousins come with whatever kin could be spared for a desperate battle. Once assembled, Vingkot prayed and sacrificed the perfect black ram. Mastakos prayed and sacrificed the perfect black deer. Enferalda prayed and sacrificed the perfect red-breasted swan. Orlanth blew upon the army and as one it rose and raged over the land towards their foe.
The armies met north of Kerofinela, at Thrinbarri. The Thunder Brothers fought against their traditional foes of the Fire Tribe. Dara Happans, Sky Captains, Hellmen, Rogue Planets, winged Sky Warriors, hawk riders, burning giants and more. Heroes and champions invoked the Ancient Ten and One and challenged their foes to heroic combat with parts of each others' souls, personalities, and personal power at stake.
The battle was hard fought. The sons of the Emperor committed all they had to defeating Vingkot and the Thunder Brothers, but with his last breath, the Thunderer asked for more help, from Orlanth the Great God. Orlanth responded and drove the Fire Tribe off the field. Orlanth proved he was greater than the Fire Tribe.
The Heroquest
There are a lot of potential heroquests running through the Thrinbarri Battles. For instance a character could take the role of Vingkot. He will need to summon his followers (as the Vingkotlings). He will need to say which Thrinbarri he plans to fight at - and what he will be staking in the heroquest challenge.
