Hi Scott,

> But would this model apply to ALL territories/cults? For example,
in our game the Leaders of Sartarite "regiments" would invariably be Carls or Clan Cheiftans, ergo devotees (at least) of Orlanth Rex, while the majority of his men would be thunderous/adventurous. Are subcults a factor in what you are saying?

Er... I'm not entirely sure how to answer that [well, actually, a straight 'No' would do :)]; but I'm *really* not the best person to speak on Heortling matters!

Although I wrote a heck of a lot in my mail, I tried my darnedest not to speculate anything of actual substance for Glorantha (that's where we get into long discussions and arguments!) -- more to just note a couple of the basic factors in the 'regimental system' (whatever the heck that is...), as it can be a funny concept; deceptively simple to write, but a real pain to elucidate.

Speaking of the Lunar Empire, as (IIRC) everyone has said, there are a huge variety of forces at its disposal, from a bewildering array of cultures. Some are wholly Lunar; others staunchly devoted to their own military cultures; others an interesting synthesis of the two. For every single suggestion there might be ten exceptions!

Many 'regiments' have deities noted; some of these are primary war gods, some subcults, others hero cults, and more still unknown! With the expansion of the guardians rules, and great examples in supplements like MoLaD, are some of these 'deities' going to be linked more with heroband guardians, as opposed to a regimental 'god'? I really don't know. And then there are vexillae...

> In this method, entire Lunar companies could be subdivided into
smaller, "closer" and more identifiable "brotherhoods"...

Funnily enough, about two years ago, when I first said hello to Martin, we discussed the possibility of phratrai (i.e. 'brotherhoods') as societies and groupings within some regiments and other military units... both of us liked them, but I don't think it ever got any futher. So yes, I fully agree and think it could be a fun idea!

Cheerio,

Stu.
