I don't know about classics specifically (although I'm sure there are
some), but there have certainly been a number of books based wholly, or
partly on the premise. 'Job' by Robert Heinlein springs to mind, and 'No
Heaven for Gunga Din' by Ali Mirdrekvandi is another.
