Kolatis' daily bread?

In the rules it states that shaman's typically spend about 60% of their time in shamanic duties. While much of this time is spent improving their poweres, much is also spent providing spirits to their supporters.

Elsewhere I've been given to understand that this level of time commitment (such as with devotees), means that you cannot support yourself through normal means, and must be supported by your community.

In the Kolat key word is says that Kolat shamans often have essentially no relationships, or possibly one with their families.

So, putting all of these together......

Either, because they actually don't have much in the way of supporters Kolat shamans would spend marginally less time in shamanic duties, perhaps giving them enough time to look for enough roots and berries to keep body and fetch together,

Or, because they have no real profession to support themselves with anyways they spend that extra "shaman duty" time as magical beggars, trying to find good Orlanthi that will pay them for their services.

Or, there is another possibility that I have missed. Like perhaps most Kolat shamans are on something like a retainer basis with various clans, so they expect at least subsistence support no matter what, while they perform at least rudimentary spirit checking around the tula.

Finally, on a semi-related note, does anyone have suggestions for what limits there would be on a joe-orlanthi / Kolati relationship? For example, would it be right and proper to use the feats you derive from Orlanth to help your uncle the shaman? Would it be reasonable for him to pay you back with a one use fetish? Or is that simply not done, for cultural or mystical reasons?
