Anaxial's Roster p 161
"When a dragonnewt dies, it is reborn from its original egg a few days later, fully grown."

Sounds like you're right.

There's a little more info in earlier sources, but not by much.

Intro to Glorantha Book p24 says "when a dragonnewt dies, its body is discarded and the dragonnewt's soul instantly returns to the egg from which it hatched originally.... After some days the reborn dragonnewt emerges, personality intact.... more or less ready to pick up its life from when it died. The time spent in the egg varies with the moral developemnt of the dragonnewt."
