Or could it be this?

5. The myths weren't all that similar, and didn't have particularly similar effects, and weren't useful for communication between Orlanthi and Malkioni...

...but the God-Learners got ahold of the myths, and re-wrote and merged them.

Is that possible? (Or did you consider that encompassed by one of your four possibilities?)
