Except that professional slingers don't rely on finding the right size stone where they happen to be. Assuming they use stones rather than lead shot they will want a particular size and weight of stone that they know will fly a specific distance. Archaeologists excavating hill forts have found stores of slingstones all of a standard weight and shape.
